19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had caused commentators to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
